Inclusion at Orchards
At Orchards C of E Primary and Nursery School we have a strong commitment towards inclusive education for all children. We aim to provide a secure, happy and supportive environment where every child can thrive and be successful.We promote ownership and use a Quality First Teaching approach to meet the needs of children. Teachers plan appropriately differentiated work and styles of learning to meet the needs of all children in their class.
Support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
When a child is identified as needing additional support, to maintain their confidence and self-esteem, intervention is provided early. The Every Child A Reader (ECAR) and Every Child Counts (ECC) teachers work with individual children. These specialist teachers also work alongside the SENCO and class teachers to ensure that children receive a high level of skilled intervention work. Small group and 1:1 programmes in reading, writing, numeracy and social skills are taught by teachers and Teaching Assistants who have been specifically trained to carry out the intervention programme.
If a child will benefit from further support then their name may be added to the SEN Register. An Individual Educational Plan may be created to help the child access the steps that they need to complete to achieve their goals. When parents and teachers consider that advice from outside agencies, such as Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Teachers, Educational Psychologists and Occupational Therapists, would help meet a child’s needs then this advice is requested.
