Wisbech Reads

Wisbech Reads, a new initiative aimed at tackling literacy problems in Wisbech.

Wisbech Reads aims to encourage more adults to get into reading and to help their children enjoy books too with the goal of improving literacy skills across all ages.

It is being organised by a group made up of local schools, the library, businesses and other interested bodies including local councils.

Some of the Wisbech Reads working party met with Steve Barclay MP.

Steve commented, "I have always been an avid reader, I always have at least one book on the go. Reading to my children at bedtime is one of my favourite times of the day. We all enjoy sitting together and reading stories like the Gruffalo. It is something I would encourage all parents to do, as it allows you to spend quality time with your children and help them make a good start in their reading skills. Wisbech Reads is a great initiative which I hope local people will get behind and support. Having good literacy is the key to so many other skills including maths and science."
