Welcome to a new academic year - Autumn 2017
We are ready to learn new things!
Our topic this half term is…
Digging for Dinosaurs
We will be discussing: When and where did dinosaurs live? How did man evolve?
In English, we will be revising different text types including stories, diaries, persuasive texts , information texts including explanation and instruction and balanced arguments. We will be using a variety of non fiction books and researching the evolution of man on the Internet.
Reading – in class we will be reading 'There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sacher. This is always a favourite with the children – ask your child to tell you about it.
Remember to log on to Bugclub and try to join the local library to read some great books. If you are on accelerated reader, remember to read your book and log on to take your tests regularly.
In MATHS, we will be looking at place value, all four operations, measure and shape and space.
Remember to use Sumdog to practise and learn new maths skills: www.sumdog.com Look out for the challenges set for you.
TOPIC & SCIENCE
Our learning in TOPIC will be centred around the Digging for Dinosaurs and Evolution of Man.
Revision guides will be made available to all children. There will be topic homework where children can research Evolution of man by themselves whilst carrying out some exciting tasks independently.
Daily homework continues:
Reading & Spellings
The Internet is good for revision but please remember e-safety.
Also children are members of SUMDOG (a great website for maths) and BUG CLUB (a fantastic website for reading) - If you have forgotten your log-ins and passwords ask your teacher!
The children have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please ensure they have the correct PE kit and footwear with them on these days. This half-term, our PE topics are invation games, such as football, tag-rugby and cross country, so we will often be outside – weather permitting! We will also have some Fridays where we will be swimming!
Transition to secondary school
This is not too far away now! We will continue to liaise with local secondary schools. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's transition, please speak with Mrs Dakin or Mr Fulcher before or after school hours; you can also speak with Mrs Ffoulkes (Wellbeing Team) who is also responsible for transition to secondary school.
Dates for your diary:
Friday 6th October – Year 6 annual visit to Ely Cathedral
Miscellaneous: Each child is entitled to a locker to keep their belongings safe – a key is available from us, for a deposit of £5, which is returned to you at the end of the year, in exchange for the returned key.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
