The children were busy with all things 'growing' last half term – we loved to see all of their fantastic sunflower diaries  from home!

Our topic in Summer 2 is Minibeasts and Insects

The children will be finding about anything that wriggles and crawls in our gardens. We will be looking at similarities and differences between different minibeasts and looking for them in our own outdoor enviroments.

We will be using non-fiction books, ipads and the world wide web to find out some fun facts… We will also be looking after our very own caterpillars and watching them emerge as butterflies later on in the term…

Don't forget – the doors will be closed at 8.35am each morning. If you need to speak to the teacher, then please make an appointment at the office. Thanks!

Please allow your child to come into class independently – it helps them be prepared for joining Year 1.

Please note that PE is now on a WEDNESDAY  for all reception classes

- Children require a PE kit on these days consisting of a t-shirt and a pair of shorts or leggings. These should be named and sent in a bag. These are available to purchase from the school office…

Please help your child feel more confident in dressing and undressing for PE by encouraging them to have a go at these things independently at home. We work on being independent in dressing and undressing at school (including shoes) so please put your child in clothes they are comfortable about taking off for themselves. Of course we will help your child if they are stuck but the children take a real pride in learning a new skill!

This half term the children will be sharing stories such as …

The Hungry Caterpillar and The Bad Tempered Ladybird

Image result for the hungry caterpillar    Image result for the bad tempered ladybird

We will be reading and writing our own riddles to guess the minibeast.

we will also be reading different rhymes and poems about minibeasts

The Parent Portal on the Interactive Learning Diary is now  LIVE!

You should have received an invitation to share in our child's personal learning journey from home.

You can log on and access your child's Individual learning journal as well as post your own photos, video clips and observations. You will have the chance to look at flip books of your child's most recent learning. We hope you are enjoying using the portal. Thanks for contributing to the children's learning journeys.

There is now a new Parent ILD App which you can download for your tablet or smart phone. The feedback we have received  from parents is good – they report it is easy to use and the pictures and videos are crystal clear to view. You can also view and write your own observations in your home language using this app.

If you are having trouble in setting up your login and would like some support or have forgotten your details, come and speak to Miss Harrison or one of the Early Years team…

You can get to the Portal by clicking here…

This half term we will be having some different minibeast challenges. Try and aim to complete one each week and return the homework diary to school.

Don't forget that reading is part of our homework in Early Years too.

You should be aiming to read at least three times a week with your child at home

Don't forget to ask your child questions about the story or book they have been reading to check that they are reading for meaning….

There will also be some more homework for Mums and Dads again to complete too this half term – Look out for our parent postcards coming home in book bags. These are geared to what you do as a family outside of school or to gauge your thoughts on topics your child has learnt at school… The information you provide on these is fed into our Interactive Learning Diary observations on each child, so returning them to school is really appreciated.

Bug Club and Sumdog are now set up for your child to use at home. You should have received a personal login for your child from their teacher.

Please encourage your child to complete the Sumdog assessment questions independently so as it will work out what level your child can work on… If you need reminding of your child's logon details, please speak to the class teacher…

Our reading books are changed on a Monday and Wednesday. Sometimes we may have to change them on another day if we are short of adults so it's best to bring your bookbag into school EVERYDAY.

Don't forget that we have a good library in Wisbech with many fun children's books that you can borrow and read together at home… We hope to be visiting the Wisbech library soon after a successful story time with our local librarian during Literacy week last term.

Please also sign your child's book or feel free to add a comment about how reading is going at home. It is our way of knowing that you are reading together every week.

During the year we have provided some children with clothes and unfortunately not all of these have been returned to school after use. We are now running short of spare clothes in class whic hmeans we may need to ring you if your child has an accident.

If you have any clothes at home that you have borrowed please wash and return to school as soon as possible.

We would be welcome for any spare socks, pants, skirts, trousers, coats and t-shirts that you may have at home to top up our spare change boxes. Thanks in advance!

Does anybody have a few spare hours to give in helping repair and prepare the vegetable beds in the Reception garden area or help the children tend their vegetable patches???

This could be linked to Time Credits if you wish. Tools and tea will be provided – along with staff and children to support. If you are able to give up an hour or two of your time, please speak to one of the staff in Reception or to Mrs Johnson in Wellbeing who manages the time credits team… Thankyou to Mrs Snell and Mrs Baker who are already helping us to revamp our garden area

Please regularly check your child’s head for head lice – we have sporadic outbreaks suring the year.
If you need advice, please see either Mrs Carlile or your GP or local pharmacist.

'There is no such thing as bad weather… just bad clothing'.

We use our outdoor areas all year round in all weathers, so please make sure that your child brings a washable, waterproof named coat to school. We are still prone to sharp showers this late in the year!

Image result for children's sunhat            Image result for sun clipart  Image result for children's suncream

Now that the weather is getting warmer, please ensure your child comes to school with a sunhat and water bottle – both of which should be named. Please let us know if you would prefer that your child does NOT have suncream on during the day. We have children's hypoallergenic Factor 50 cream for your child to apply at school to protect them when using our outdoor areas.

Thanks for your continued support this year – The children have worked fantastically hard and we are all very proud of them!
